How did Dorothy Hamill Make Her Money & Wealth?
Born on July 26, 1956, in Chicago, Illinois, Dorothy Hamill is the daughter of Chalmers, a mechanical engineer, and Carol, a housewife. Growing up with her two older siblings, she started skating at the age of eight. Though she originally took group lessons, she eventually began to take regular private lessons, after becoming more serious about the sport. In fact, it wasn’t uncommon for her to wake up at 4:30 in the morning for practice before school.
At the age of twelve, Hamill successfully won the novice title at the U.S. Championships. Later that same year, she was assigned to the 1969 World Figure Skating Championships. Still, it wasn’t until later in her teens that she reigned as a U.S. champion from 1974 to 1976.
After winning the gold medal at the 1976 World Championships in Gothenburg, she was named to the U.S. Olympic Team for the Winter Games in Innsbruck. Representing the United States, the skater eventually won the gold medal in the ladies’ singles event. Today, she is perhaps best remembered for the last Olympic champion to have won without a triple jump in competition.
Not long afterward, Hamill announced her retirement from competition. Still, she remained active on the ice, as a performer in ice shows; for instance, she had headlined the Ice Capades for close to a decade from 1977 to 1984. Naturally, she would have earned herself a decent sum from all those years.
In the recent years, Hamill has returned to the limelight after appearing in a few reality TV shows. Not only did she take part as a contestant in the 16th season of Dancing with the Stars in 2013 (though a back injury led her to withdraw prematurely), but she had recently also been featured in the cooking competition, Chopped in 2017.
As far as other projects go, she has authored two books; her second autobiography titled, A Skating Life: My Story was released in 2007.
