A former figure skater, Scott Hamilton had won a gold medal for the U.S. at the 1984 Winter Olympics. Prior to that, his skills on the ice had also earned him four World Champion titles. Shortly after his Olympic gold, he announced his retirement from competition.
Hailing from Ohio, Hamilton began skating as a young boy. After many years of dedicated training, he made his Olympic debut at the 1980 Winter Games, where he served as the  U.S. flag bearer. A year later, he won his first gold medal at the World Championships in Hartford.

How Scott Hamilton Became Famous
Ultimately, it was after his first victory at the World Championships that he started to gain widespread attention. Afterward, he successfully defended his title for three years in a row, from 1982 to 1984.
From there, he went on to earn himself a spot on the US Olympic Team for the 1984 Winter Games. After a splendid performance on the ice, Hamilton was awarded the gold medal in the men’s singles event. Shortly afterward, he announced that he would be retiring from competition.

A year after his retirement, he began working as a skating commentator for CBS. At one point, he had also worked or the NBC Network.
Since then, he has also appeared on a number of TV shows such as Wanna Bet? Roseanne, The Fairly Odd Parents, and King of the Hill. In 2010, a TV special titled, Scott Hamilton: Return to the Ice also aired on the Bio Channel.
Over the years, Hamilton has battled against cancer three times. In 1997, his battle with testicular cancer was much-publicized in the media. From there, it was announced that he had a brain tumor in 2004; it would later come back in 2010.
Most recently, he received his third brain tumor diagnosis in 2016. Fortunately, it has shrunk without chemotherapy, as of 2017.
