One Dead, Six Injured In Homecoming Shooting at Lincoln University

One person was killed and six others were wounded after gunfire broke out during Lincoln University’s homecoming weekend, officials say.

The attack marks yet another violent incident tied to college homecoming and game-day festivities across the U.S.

Shots were fired near the school’s International Cultural Center, where crowds were gathering to celebrate after the football match that afternoon.

In total, seven people were struck as the shooting broke out.

Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe, the District Attorney of Chester County, said what had been a joyful celebration “was shattered by gunfire.” He described the aftermath as complete chaos with terrified students and visitors sprinting in all directions to escape.

Officials have not given any further information on the conditions of the six wounded victims.

However, authorities said most of those who were injured were transported to hospitals in Delaware.

A number of others were treated on-site for injuries caused when the crowd surged and people were knocked down while rushing to safety.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro said he has been in regular communication with university leaders since the shooting and noted his administration is working closely with state police throughout the response.

Investigators are still searching for a motive.

District Attorney Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe stressed that early evidence does not suggest someone arrived with the intent to carry out a large-scale attack on campus.

One individual was taken into custody for having a gun, he added.

Police confirmed that a suspect has been arrested and jailed for carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, though authorities are still trying to determine whether that firearm was actually used in the shooting.

De Barrena-Sarobe acknowledged that many questions remain unanswered and said the possibility of multiple shooters has not been ruled out.

The victim who died has been identified as 25-year-old Jujuan Jeffers, who was fatally shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene.

Lincoln University, a historically Black institution, is located about 55 miles outside Philadelphia.

While the campus is no longer on lockdown, officials say the surrounding area remains cordoned off while investigators continue processing the crime scene.

The school noted that counseling and mental health support will be made available for students and staff who need help coping after the shooting.
