Even if you game only occasionally, you surely will have noticed that it’s not only the player, but the equipment that’s being used that can mean the difference between victory and defeat. While some players toss in hundreds, if not thousands of dollars for the optimum screen, keyboard, mouse, and tower, some of us simply don’t have that sort of disposable income at any point. That does not mean however, that we are excluded from having some nice toys of our own. Here, we will look at the Redragon M601 CENTROPHORUS-2000 DPI gaming mouse, which comes in at the budget price if you click here to apply the best price at Amazon.com.
A Heavyweight For The Price
One of the biggest selling points for the Redragon M601 is the fact you can adjust the weight of the mouse for better control, or faster movement. On the bottom of the mouse is small panel where you can insert or remove some of the weighted bearings, making it heavier for more even control (ideal for FPS games) or lighter (which is great for games like Starcraft, which can greatly benefit from those split seconds trimmed off selection time). In all honesty, I found this system to somewhat useful, but as a main selling point, a little weak. While the weight alterations did help in a variety of games, there was a significantly larger change when opting to use a soft or laminated mouse pad for gaming. That being said, it will certainly never hurt to use both in tandem, and the weight system does not in any way detract from the value of the mouse, which again at $14, is pretty good.
The Redragon M601 2000dpi Setting
For the uninitiated, DPI or Dots Per Inch, is a measure of how sensitive a mouse sensor can be for detecting movement across a surface. The higher the number, the smaller the movement is required to get the on screen cursor to the desired destination. For the Redragon M601, the upper limit due to hardware for DPI is 2000, which is going to be ideal for most monitors currently on the market. Given that most monitors of the past 3 years have been 1080p or lower in resolution, for most people, the DPI of the Redragon will be an excellent choice in terms of sensitivity. However, if you have already upgraded to a 4k screen, the 2000 DPI may find itself a bit on the slower side. For those worried about oversensitivity, part of the software suite that comes with the mouse includes an option to lower DPI as needed to unsure as seamless an experience between player and game as possible.
Power in the Palm of Your Hand
The Redragon M601 has a pair of buttons located next to the thumb placement which can be programmed as alternatives for keyboard keys of actions. These tend to be very responsive, and easy to program. This makes it easy in FPS games to pull a quick reload before shots without a second thought, or in RTS games, having a quick action without a second thought. Likewise, there is a button for the aforementioned DPI which can be programmed to fine tune your gaming experience. The overall ergonomics of the Redragon is surprisingly comfortable and smooth, despite having a somewhat sharp look. All in all, the construction and consideration put into this mouse for the player stands out as exceptional, especially when compared to “normal” mice which cost only a few dollars less.
Final Thoughts
In conclusion, if you’re wanting to get a slight edge in your gaming, the Redragon M601 CENTROPHORUS-2000 DPI Gaming Mouse is a fine choice to start with. While it does not have all the perks that come with mice that are three times its price, within the budget market it does stand out as a fantastic value. Considering most DLC is now above the cost of this mouse, it’s hard not to rationalize out this purchase as a fine idea, especially considering that this can also be used outside of gaming and still be pretty handy. While I would not recommend this mouse for someone with an upper level MSi or Alienware or custom build with Geforce Titan cards and a 4k screen, it serves its purpose well for just about everyone else on the market.
