So right off the bat, I want to talk about what this light bulb is able to do. First, I should note that pretty much everything about this app runs through the Koogeek Home app. With most smart home devices, you’re going to be using an app like this. The cool thing about the Koogeek WiFi Smart Light Bulb is that it doesn’t require a hub. A lot of the times, when you have something like a smart light bulb, each bulb will be connected to a separate hub. And it’s that hub that actually interfaces with the app. It’s not that much of an inconvenience, but it is a separate piece of hardware for you to worry about. You don’t need to use one of those with this particular light bulb. The light bulb is able to connect to your 2.4 GHz network and connect to the app, and from there, all of the power is in your hands, literally. There are a ton of different things that you can do with this bulb, from within the app.
First, you can set up scenes. Scenes are sort of like presets. Basically, you set up individual settings for each light. Once you have a configuration that you like, you can save it as a scene. This is super convenient, because it lets you to control multiple bulbs at the same time. They can also be controlled independently, though. Generally, it helps you save time down the road. I also really like Koogeek’s exclusive timers. A lot of people like to be woken up by light, as opposed to a harsh alarm. Through the app, you can set timers that dim the lights when it’s time to get ready for bed, and then brighten the lights when it’s time to get out of bed. I think this feature is also functional from a security point of view, since it lets you turns lights on and off while you’re away on vacation or something like that. Finally, through the app you can fine tune the color of your light bulbs. These bulbs support a whopping 16 million of them. So basically, the Koogek Wifi Smart Light Bulb has it all.
How well does the Koogeek Wifi Smart Light Bulb actually work?
So it’s one thing to actually have a light bulb and an app that claims to do all of these amazing things, but with high tech stuff like that, you can never tell whether or not something’s going to work until you actually see it in use. You may be worried about buying something like this, only to realize down the road that it doesn’t actually work. Well, luckily for you, the reviews are in, and they’re very positive. These bulbs are remarkably well constructed. They’re just as bright as you would expect them to be, and you can do a lot with them through the app. Koogeek boasts a lot about the customization merit of these bulbs, and they have good reason to be boastful. There are really infinite possibilities with these lights, once you really dig into the settings. The integration with Siri is really excellent, too. From both a hardware and software perspective, Koogeek got it all right with this one.
Is the Koogeek WiFi Smart Light Bulb really worth it?
So, the whole idea of a smart light bulb is pretty out there. To be honest, if you told me in 2005 that people would be controlling light bulbs with smartphones in 2017, I would have trouble believing you. However, these things are becoming really popular, and with good reason. They’re perfect for people who care a lot about interior design or mood light. They also work pretty well for events, too! Who needs to buy lights for parties when you can just go in an app and have your normal light bulbs shine purple for a few hours? The Koogeek WiFi Smart Light Bulb is versatile, and I think that it would prove useful to someone for a variety of different reasons. For instance, just using a couple of these as a way of helping you get out of bed in the morning is more than worth it, in my opinion. They’re a lot less garish than your average light alarm clock.
