Pax Labs’ first PAX was amazing and really helped to shift the personal herbal vaporizer market into a direction of sleek, futuristic-looking devices that perform extremely well. The original PAX has been said to resemble a device that looks just like a vaporizer if Apple chose to make one, and of course, the same can be said for the PAX 2.
The PAX 2 follows the same concept from the original PAX and serves as an herbal vaporizer. The design has been improved and the PAX 2 still looks much similar to the original PAX, but is much smaller now; by around 20%, is the number given.  Essentially, it is a little rounded squished column looking figure with only one noticeable feature; the signature X LED on front. The new chassis serves to keep the vaporizer much cooler as well, which I noticed could be a big problem for the original PAX if you just sat there and puffed idly over the span of 45 minutes to an hour. The PAX 2 is available in a variety of brushed, subtle aluminium colors that don’t pop out but give it a much softer, more enticing look. The mouthpiece is still located at the top, and the oven is still found at the bottom. However, the mouthpiece is changed and for the better; you no longer need to lubricate the mouthpiece. There are two options available for the mouthpiece; a flat option, and a raised variant. The raised variant is much closer to the original’s mouthpiece.
The PAX 2 still uses the cradle charger, requiring the vaporizer to sit on it and charge. However, the new cradle does charge must faster than the original.
The PAX 2’s features have been massively upgraded from the original; no longer is it just a vaporizer, but a party device! Each PAX 2 is different and has different functions, such as a Simon mode and Party mode. Some devices even play the Funky Town tune, if they do not have the Simon mode. Each PAX 2 is equipped with a variety of different functions, which allow you to tilt and play with the LEDs of the PAX 2. Certain features have options, which can be changed by pressing the temperature button on the inside of the mouthpiece chamber. Each PAX 2 is loaded with easter eggs for their user to explore and find out, which really gives this vaporizer a more personal and fun touch.
To draw from the PAX 2, the user simply puts the PAX 2 up to their lips and draws very gently. The vapor is almost unnoticeable to a first time user, but the vapor produced on a the lowest setting tastes outstanding and feels pleasant. Just as the original PAX, on the inside is a temperature button which will let the user change the temperature of the oven. The new oven serves to be more efficient than the original, keeping the oven properly heated while using less battery. The oven still needs to be stirred to properly vaporize the product within throughout, which I typically did every 20-25 draws and would increase the temperature by one notch every time throughout.
The PAX 2 is much more easy to maintain than the original; no more lubricating the mouthpiece, thank heaven. All you really need to clean it is just a pipe cleaner and some isopropyl alcohol to clean the gunk out of the tube where vapor travels, and maybe the mouthpiece to keep it spick and span clean. Do note that the PAX 2 also operates best when properly maintained and cleaned; failure to clean it can cause the oven and internals to begin to reek of whatever the last material was used within the oven. The oven still serves the best with the most finely ground product, which I find unfortunate that Pax labs does not sell an official grinder that properly grinds up the product finely enough to best serve in the PAX. The original screen scheme also returns, requiring a screen to be placed in the oven in order to properly conduct; these are available in a pack of 3 from Pax Lab’s website, as well as occasionally from locations that would sell the PAX 2.
The PAX 2 is a beautiful device, and anyone who owned the original PAX (or even one of Pax Labs’ devices, for that matter) knows what they’re in for. However, the PAX 2 has been much more refined and upgraded to be a better device. The PAX 2’s price is a step up, even from the PAX’s original launch price, and is available at $280; however, for this price, it’s easily one of the best vaporizers on the market. My original PAX is still working great after two years and is showing no signs of giving out soon. However, Pax Labs do offer a 10 year warranty for defects in materials and craftsmanship; should the device give out for reasons outside of your control, you’ll be able to receive a new device or equivalent. That averages out to $30 a year, if you include taxes; for a device like the PAX 2, the price is well worth the quality of what you are going to receive.
