Copa di Vino Before Shark Tank
James Martin is from Oregon wine country, and is the inventor of Copa di Vino, which basically stands for a glass of wine. James Martin states that he comes from a family of farmers, and that they lived there for seven generations. In the past, James Martin worked in the world of technology, but then decided to move back to Oregon, back to his small community, in order to raise a family on the farmland that his own family left him.
When he moved back to his small community, James Martin became very passionate about wine, which is an agricultural product. Because of his passion, he decided to develop his very own wine. According to James Martin, Copa di Vino will make wine easier and more accessible for people to enjoy. James Martin developed a technology that allows wine makers to be able to package wine in a way that they have never been able to do before.
James Martin states that he knows Copa di Vino will be so successful, that he hopes he will be the first entrepreneur that will become so successful, he will be invited to become a shark on the Shark Tank. The reason why James Martin needs an investment from the Sharks is because he needs their connections, in order to open up doors and sell more Copa di Vino.

James Martin continues his presentation by stating that he absolutely loves wine, and that wine is his favorite way to celebrate life with his family and friends. James Martin states that one of the greatest places to celebrate life is on the outdoors and events, but unfortunately, that is where wine gets pretty complicated. Just to be able to have a simple single glass of wine, you have to have wine bottles, cork screws and fragile wineglasses.
“James Martin reaches out to the table and grabs a Copa di Vino glass”

Mark Cuban states that James Martin is setting up prove of concept, because the wine industry has seen many concepts fail so many times before.
Daymond John states that there is a believe that pioneers get slaughtered and settlers prosper, and with that said, Daymond John believes that Copa di Vino is too premature for him to invest in it. Daymond John doesn’t want to make an offer and states that he is out.

Kevin O’Leary states that he really likes the patent that James Martin owns.
“Robert Herjavec asks James Martin if there is a way to separate the licensing, the intellectual property, from the wine business itself”
James Martin answers the question by saying that it is always a possibility.
Mark Cuban states that if James Martin could come back to him with an offer for the patent alone, he would be very much interested in that. Mark Cuban continues by stating that Copa di Vino and the wine business could still be James Martin’s to do what he wants with it.
James Martin states that Mark Cuban could resell Copa di Vino wine by the glass in his stadium, because the amount of people that visit the stadium rises every single year.
Mark Cuban responds by saying that it is not lost to him that he could resell Copa di Vino wine by the glass products, but he doesn’t want to be in the commission sales business.
“Kevin O’Leary asks James Martin if he would give him a check of six hundred thousand dollars, what kind of percentage on the patent he would get”
James Martin answers the question by saying that Kevin O’Leary would get twenty percent.

Robert Herjavec continues by stating that his gut feeling tells him that James Martin doesn’t want to do that anyways, and for that reason, he is out as well.
Barbara Corcoran states that she doesn’t think she will be able to bring anything to the table, even if she wanted to partner up with James Martin. Barbara Corcoran is out as well.
Kevin O’Leary states that the real value in Copa di Vino is the intellectual property, because if you really own that, the category of wine by the glass will explode, and James Martin will make money every single time that somebody rips off the top of one of the glasses.
“Kevin O’Leary asks James Martin if he could focus on the intellectual property and tell him how much he would sell him for six hundred thousand dollars”

Kevin O’Leary offers six hundred thousand dollars, in exchange for a fifty one percent stake of the patent. Kevin O’Leary states that he will worry about everything, and that he will be able to sleep at night. At the same time, James Martin will be able to worry about his brand and bottling, but Kevin O’Leary will be in charge of the licensing.
James Martin responds by saying that the opportunity is far greater than that.
Mark Cuban states that the deal that Kevin O’Leary made is far better than what he would have offered himself. The reason for that is that James Martin could take the six hundred thousand dollars and use it as he pleases, and at the same time accomplish everything that he wants to accomplish with Copa di Vino. Mark Cuban continues by stating that he would never make a deal like that, and for that reason, he is out as well.
James Martin states that if he only could explain himself a little better to the Sharks.

Kevin O’Leary states that he is a dream come true for James Martin.
James Martin responds by saying that he knows it is a great opportunity for him, but states that he has also put a million dollars of his own money into Copa di Vino. Copa di Vino Now In 2024 – After Shark Tank Updates
They might not have landed a deal with the sharks but that didn’t stop them from growing. Shortly after appearing on the show, they landed several distribution deals with a variety of retailers. In fact, they were selling “very well” during the summer of 2012, according to a Boston area distributor.
By 2015, they were making nearly $20 million in annual sales, with the company valued at approximately $70 million.
Fast forward to 2021 and it was announced that the company had been acquired by Splash Beverage Group, Inc, a distributor and manufacturer of non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages, for an undisclosed amount. At the time, the company was pulling in $2 million in annual revenue. And by 2022, the brand was making more than $6 million a year.
There were some issues with one of their distributors, however. More specifically, with the New York-based 3G’s Vino. Established in 2012 by Joseph Falcone, the distributor had taken the fame that Copa di Vino had from Shark Tank and ran with it, using the reality show’s credit to secure his own investors. According to the Department of Justice, they went as far as defrauding them out of more than half a million dollars. Fortunately, justice has been served as he’s been sentenced to two years behind bars.
The good news is that the investigation didn’t affect Copa di Vino itself. In fact, they weren’t even mentioned in court, which is probably a good thing.
As of 2024, Copa Di Vino is still in business. If anything, they’re just as popular as ever. Nowadays, they offer several types of wine including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, White Zinfandel, Chardonnay, Moscato, Red Blend, Pinot Noir, Pinot Grigio, and Riesling, and like before, they all come in their own individual cups. Those who are interested in the beverages can purchase them directly on their website. They’re available in cases (12 glasses of 6.3 oz) for $35.99.
They’re also available from a number of retailers across the US including Total Wine, Eataly, Gus’s Community Market, Smart & Final, Falleti Foods, and Lucky Supermarkets. Not only that but they’re also available across the border in Canada.
The bottom line is, they’re a Shark Tank success, even though they didn’t land a deal with the sharks. If anything, it goes to show that it’s possible to succeed as long as you have a proper game plan. For more news and updates, you can follow them on Twitter or check out their official Facebook page.
