It’s not often that I come across a foam mattress that matches the quality of the Leesa, but Saatva’s Loom and Leaf gives it a run for its money. A blend of not two, not three, but four different foam layers combine to make Saatva’s trademark bespoke-esque feel. Hand crafted at a U.S. factory and shipped directly to your door, you would be hard pressed to find a higher quality build on the market. The Loom and Leaf comes in two distinct flavors, Relaxed Firm and Firm. I was able to test out the Relaxed Firm, so let’s see how it did.
About Saatva
Saatva was founded in 2011 by Ron Rudzin and Ricky Joshi and they have made a name for themselves specializing in high quality direct to consumer mattresses. The name of the company s derived from the Sanskrit word Sattva. Last year’s revenue exceeded $120 million and Forbes listed Saatva as a company to watch in the coming years. It is even rumored that Pope Francis slept on a Loom and Leaf during his visit to the U.S. Not many firms can claim Pontiff approval for their products. I couldn’t find any reference to philanthropic endeavors from the company though, which seems to be the standard from all of their competitors. Perhaps they just don’t brag about it.
The Loom and Leaf Mattress Build Quality & Materials
From the top, or the topper. Here we have the holy grail of cover materials, pure cotton. Excellent durability combined with unsurpassed comfort and breath-ability. I love me some cotton covers. It’s quilted too, making up for its lack of pillow top by just covering the whole thing in a thin layer of foam exactly 5/8″ thick. It’s this level of detail that makes Saatva the market leader design wise. the quality here really must be felt to be believed. They finish it off with fire resistant thistle woven through for safety. Aesthetically it is gorgeous. Dimpled and covered in logos true, but it screams comfort from every angle. When you imagine a mattress in your head, which is something I’ve been doing more and more often lately, this is the design your brain comes up with.
On the inside we have what can only be called cutting edge mattress technology. Where other mattresses go for utilitarian efficiency to achieve near perfect comfort, the Loom and Leaf prove that maximalism is really the best policy when designing bedding. We have four layers here. A five and a half inch high density support layer at the bottom, acts as the bones for the mattress. Atop that is what they call a transition loft pad two inches thick. It acts as a transfer layer, allowing the memory foam above it and the harder support foam below it to move more ergonomically. Next up we have a 5lb block of memory foam. Usual caveat here, super comfortable, great for your back, terrible for overheating. The Loom and Leaf goes beyond using a layer of latex foam to mitigate the heat build up though. They straight up water cool it. Or the mattress equivalent. The topmost layer is made of memory foam infused with cooling gel. It creates double the conforming comfort while dissipating all excess heat, leaving you constantly comfortable in bed. This kind of gel is used in hospitals to treat burns, so you know you’re getting the good stuff here.
Loom and Leaf Overall Review
I cannot overstate how amazing this mattress is. Each layer specially designed and perfectly balanced to create a near bespoke sleeping experience. I would argue that the extra foam layer makes sleeping side by side a little more cumbersome than it needs to be, but it’s far from uncomfortable. The medium firmness of the Relaxed Firm that I tried out accommodated all three main sleeping positions well, though lying on my stomach was less comfortable than I expected it to be. I imagine that the Firm is better for sleeping next to your partner, less dueling sinkage and all that. If you suffer from any back pains from sleeping poorly then this design will go a long way to fixing them, it must be said. If we only looked at the quality of the products themselves, I would have to recommend this, but there is always the matter of money.
Loom and Leaf Mattress – Pricing & Returns Policy
Money is a constant concern to us all, so it’s important we know exactly what we’re spending on what. The Loom and Leaf Queen is not a cheap mattress. You do get what you pay for, but at $999 you may find it just outside your price range. If you have money to burn, then I say get the Loom and Leaf, it really is the best foam mattress I’ve tested, but there are other extremely comfortable, and significantly cheaper, mattresses out there. See the full pricing breakdown below.
Size | Mattress Price | Dimensions |
Twin | $699 | 30″ x 75″ x 12″ |
Twin XL | $799 | 39″ x 80″ x 12″ |
Full | $949 | 54″ x 75″ x 12″ |
Queen | $999 | 60″ x 80″ x 12″ |
King | $1399 | 76″ x 80″ x 12″ |
Cal King | $1399 | 72″ x 84″ x 12″ |
Some pretty high prices there, and they aren’t about to get prettier. Unlike every other foam mattress I have tried out, Loom and Leaf charge for delivery. Putting the base price you are paying for a queen to come to your door to $1098. Over a grand for a high quality foam mattress is a little excessive in today’s market. They do provide a number of additional services that are nice to see, foundations of various sizes, frames and even mattress removal. If you’re going to partake of any of those services the price sky rockets though, with the complete package hitting as high as $1521.
The trial period is less than its competitors as well, being a mere seventy five days long. Honestly, that seems like more than enough time to decide whether you want to keep a mattress or not, but it’s still a minor black mark not matching the other companies in the industry. They do offer a slightly longer warranty, fifteen years against the usual ten. Another positive is that they will come and pick up rejected mattresses for free, and provide a full refund.

Loom and Leaf Mattress – So Is it Worth it in 2018?
As much as I love this mattress it is a bit of a hard sell. That price is far and away above the competition, so no matter how comfortable it is, no matter how impressive the tech used is, this is still a mattress for the elite. It is even more expensive than the Saatva vanilla, and that one has springs in it. Overall one of my favorites, but there are cheaper options out there that are very nearly as good. For example the other mattress by Saatva is a great option!

Loom and Leaf Add-Ons
Mattress Protector – With other mattresses I have reviewed I have advised you get yourself a mattress protector as soon as possible, and this time I really mean it. You have just bought an incredibly expensive object, you need to make sure it lasts for as long as you can in order to lower it’s perceived cost. Get yourself a SafeRest and you won’t have to worry about spillages or damages, excellent product, and you can get it for a discount by clicking this link. clicking this link to automatically apply the discounted rate at Amazon.com
Sheets – Another Mattress review another section with me telling you to get out there and buy high quality cotton sheets. It’s less required this time, considering the topper is made of good quality cotton, but I would recommend sleeping directly on the topper, I did that for a while and it is less than comfortable. Get this one from Amazon, mine recently arrived by the way and they are luxurious. clicking this link to automatically apply the discounted rate at Amazon.com
